Tuvar Dal Funake/Vafole

Preparation Time - 5 Min              Cooking Time - 25 Min                               Serves - 6

Ingredients:


Tuvar dal - 1 Cup

Finely chopped cilantro - 1/2 Cup

Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp

Ginger - 1/2 inch piece

Garlic - 3 Cloves

Curry leaves -  4

Green chili - 1

Lemon juice - 1 Tsp

Red chili powder - 1/4 Tsp

Turmeric powder - 1/2 Tsp

Coriander powder - 1 Tsp

Salt - to taste

Sesame seeds - 2 Tbsp

Desiccated coconut - 2 Tsp to garnish

Oil - 1 Tbsp to shallow fry 

Method:


1) Soak tuvar dal in lukewarm water for 3-4 hrs.

2) Grind soaked dal, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, curry leaves and green chili together to coarsely paste. Do not add water.

3) Add chopped cilantro, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder,lemon juice and salt in grind mixture and mix well.

4) Make small balls/dumplings of mixture and roll them in sesame seeds.

 


5) Steam these dumplings in pressure cooker for 15 mins.

6) Cut the dumplings in small pieces and shallow fry till brown in color. Garnish with coconut and serve hot.

Ambat God Varan/Chinch Gulachi Amti

Preparation time : 30 Min                         Cooking time : 12 Min                  Serves : 4

Ingredients:


Tuvar dal - 1/2 Cup

Tamarind paste - 1/2 Tbsp

Jaggery - 1 Tbsp

Curry leaves - 8

Oil - 1 Tbsp

Mustard seeds - 1 Tsp

Cumin seeds - 2 Tsp

Asafoetida - Two pinch

Red chili powder - 2 Tsp

Turmeric powder - 1 Tsp

Salt - 3 Tsp

Cilantro - a few

Method :


1) Wash tuvar dal till water runs clean. Add 1 1/2 cup water, a pinch of asafoetida and 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder and pressure cook up to 20 mins or 3 whistles. 

2) Heat oil in pan and crackle mustard seeds.

3) Add cumin seeds, asafoetida and 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.

4) Add curry leaves, tamarind paste, jaggery and red chili powder.
Tip : You can also add garlic if you like.



6) Add tuvar dal, salt, 1/2 cup water and cook on medium flame for 7 mins.



7) Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with chapati, dal or bati.

Misaliche Varan/ Mix Dal Lassoni

Preparation Time - 30 Min                           Cooking Time - 30 Min                   Serves - 4

Ingredients :


Tuvar dal - 1/4 cup

Urad dal with cover(Black gram) - 3/4 cup

Masoor dal (Red Lentil) - 1/4 Cup

Moong dal with cover - 1/4 Cup

Chana dal - 1/4 Cup

Finely chopped garlic - 8 Cloves

Finely chopped onion - 1/2 Cup

Red chili powder - 1 1/2 Tsp or to taste

Turmeric powder - 1/4 Tsp

Goda masala - 1/2 Tsp

Asafoetida - a pinch

Mustard seeds - 1/2 Tsp

Oil - 1/2 Tbsp

Method :


1) In a bowl mix together dal, wash and soak for 1/2 an hour.

2) Pressure cook dal for 20 min or 3 whistles.

3) In a pan heat oil and add mustard seeds, let it crackle.

4) Add asafoetida, garlic and saute well for 1 min.s

5) Add onions and saute well till translucent.

6) Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, goda masala and mix well.

7) Add pressure cook dal and 2 cup water and salt.

8) Let it cook for 15 mins on low flame.

9) Serve hot with chapati.

Dal Palak

Preparation Time - 10 Min                         Cooking Time - 30 Min                      Serves - 4

Ingredients :


Tuvar dal(Yellow Lentil) - 1 Cup

Chana(Gram) Dal - 1/4 Cup

Finely chopped palak(Spinach) - Half bunch

Ground nuts - 1/4 Cup

Finely chopped onion - 1/2 Cup

Finely chopped tomato - 1/2 Cup

Ginger garlic paste - 1 Tsp

Asafoetida - 1/4 Tsp

Red Chili powder - 2 Tsp or To taste

Turmeric powder - 1/2 Tsp

Salt - To taste

Sugar - 2 Tsp

Cumin seeds - 1/2 Tsp

Mustard seeds - 1/2 Tsp

Tamarind Paste - 1/2 Tsp

Oil - 3 Tsp

Method :


1) In a bowl mix tuvar dal and chana dal wash it till water runs clean.

2) Mix dal and palak, add 3 cup of water pressure cook for 20 mins or 3 whistles.



3) Heat oil in pan, add mustard seeds and let it crackle then add cumin seed and asafoetida.

4) Add ginger garlic paste and saute well.

5) Add onions and fry till golden in color and add tomato and fry till masala leaves oil.

6) Add red chili powder and turmeric powder and fry for 1 min. Add tamarind paste.



7) Add pressure cooked dal and palak.

8) Add salt, sugar and 1/2 cup water and let it cook for 7 mins on low to medium flame.

9) Serve hot with rice or chapati.

Dal Kanda/ Chana Dal Curry

Preparation Time - 10 Min                  Cooking Time - 30 Min                    Serves - 4

Ingredients :


Chana dal(Gram Lentil) - 1 Cup

Finely Chopped Onion - 1 1/2 Cup

Finely chopped tomato - 1/2 Cup

Red chili powder -  1 1/2 Tsp/To taste

Turmeric powder -1/2 Tsp

Garam masala - 1 Tsp

Coriander powder - 3 Tsp

Mustard seeds - 1 Tsp

Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp

Asafoetida -  a pinch

Salt -  1 1/2 Tsp/ To taste

Tamarind paste - 1/2 Tsp

Jaggery - 2 Tsp

Oil - 1 Tbsp

Method :


1) Soak chanal dal for 2 hrs in lukewarm water.

2) Heat oil in pan and crackle mustard seeds and add cumin seeds and asafoetida .

3) Add onion and fry till golden brown.

4) Add tomato and fry for 5 mins on medium flame.

5) Add red chili powder, turmeric and coriander powder fry for 2 min.

6) Add soaked chana dal and add 1/2 cup water.

7) Add tamarind paste, jaggery, garam masala and salt.

8) Cook for 12-15 min. or till dal is completely cooked.

9) Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with chapati.

Pesarattu/ Green Moong Dal Dosa

Ingredients :


Green Moong Dal(Green lentil) - 1 Cup

Rice - 1/4 Cup

Garlic - 3 Cloves

Ginger - 1/2 inch piece

Cumin Seeds - 1 Tsp

Salt - 2 Tsp

Green Chilies - 3 or to taste

Chopped Onion - 1/4  Cup(Optional)

Oil/Ghee - 2 Tbsp

Method :


1) Wash moong dal and rice and soak in 5 cup water min for 4 hours.



2) Then remove the excess water and grind it with given ingredients like dosa batter.

3) Keep this batter for 1-2 hour.



4) Heat the griddle, grease it with oil/ghee or butter and pour 1/2 cup of batter and spread in circular motion.



5) Let it cook for 1-2 min on medium flame add oil/ghee on edges if required.

6) Serve hot with coconut or your favorite chutney. I like this with turai/Dodka chutney.



Tip : You can add finely chopped onion on griddle with batter like uttappam.
        Instead of green moong dal you can also used sprouted whole green moong as healthier option.
